Revised:
Why the exact category matters
Shopify’s Standard Product Taxonomy has thousands of categories. The category you choose drives product attributes, search and filters, marketplace and ad feeds, and in many regions the tax rate collected at checkout. A close-but-wrong category means missing attributes and worse visibility.
How to search
Type what the product is in plain English, for example “wireless mouse”, “snow globe” or “lint remover”. Use the product type rather than the brand or model. Pick the most specific result that describes the product itself, not an accessory for it.
Categories at scale
Choosing categories by hand works for a few products. For hundreds of mixed items, WareRushAI proposes the category automatically from a photo or barcode and matches it to a real leaf of the official taxonomy, so a person only reviews it.
